Tips for School Labels

Use large, clear fonts — young children need to read their own name. Sans-serif fonts like Inter, Open Sans, or Nunito work best.
Add a colour code — use a different background colour per child or per subject. Makes it easy to sort belongings at pickup.
Include a phone number — especially on lunchbox and uniform labels. Makes lost property much easier to return.
Laminate for durability — for water bottles and lunchboxes, cover with clear tape or use waterproof label stock.
Print extras — kids lose things. Print 20% more than you think you need. Batch mode makes this easy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What label size is best for school supplies?

For small items (pencils, rulers), use tiny labels like Avery 5167 (80/sheet). For books and folders, Avery L7160 (21/A4 sheet) or Avery 5160 (30/Letter sheet) work perfectly. For thermal printers, DYMO 11354 (57×32mm) is the ideal compact label.

Can I print waterproof school labels?

OpenLabelMaker exports PDF files — you can print on any label stock, including waterproof/weatherproof labels. Buy waterproof label sheets (available from Avery and others) and print normally. Or cover standard labels with clear packing tape for a DIY waterproof solution.

Can I add images or colours to school labels?

Yes. Add background colours, upload images (like a small icon or photo), choose from 158 fonts, and adjust font sizes. You can create labels that are easy for young children to recognise even before they can read.
