Understanding Druk Methods

What's Included

Stap 1: Physical Setup and Connections

1. Unpack and inspect: Remove all protective materials and check for damage
2. Choose location: Place on a stable surface with adequate ventilation
3. Connect power: Use the included power adapter and plug into outlet
4. Power on: Press the power button - LCD display should light up
5. Choose connectivity:
   • USB: Connect the included USB-kabel to your computer
   • Ethernet: Connect network cable to RJ45 port
   • WiFi: Configure through Druker menu system

Stap 2: Installeer Zebra Drivers

The ZD420/ZD421 requires proper Drivers, but you can skip the bulky ZebraOntwerper software:

Windows Driver Installeeration

1. Download Zebra Druker Drivers from zebra.com support section
2. Search for "ZD420" or "ZD421" and download the Windows driver
3. Run the Installeerer with Administrator privileges
4. Select "Driver Only" Installeeration (skip ZebraOntwerper)
5. Choose your connection method (USB, network, etc.)
6. Volledige Installeeration and restart if prompted
7. Verify Druker appears in Devices and Drukers

Mac Driver Installeeration

1. Download the Zebra Druker driver voor MacOS
2. Installeer the .pkg file following the prompts
3. Add Druker in System Preferences > Drukers & Scanners
4. Click "+" and select your ZD420/ZD421
5. Choose the appropriate Zebra driver

Stap 3: Loading Labels (Direct Thermal)

For direct thermal Druking (both ZD420 and ZD421):

1. Open the Druker: Lift the front cover
2. Adjust Gidss: Set the label Gidss to match your label width
3. Load the roll: Place Labels on the spindle with Labels facing up
4. Thread the path: Pull Labels under the Druk head and through the exit slot
5. Close cover: Press down until it clicks securely
6. Calibrate media: Press and hold PAUSE + FEED buttons for 2 seconds
7. Test Druk: Press FEED button to advance and test detection

Stap 4: Loading Ribbon (ZD421 Thermal Transfer)

For thermal transfer Druking on the ZD421:

1. Open the Druker: Lift both the front cover and Druk head
2. Installeer ribbon supply: Place new ribbon roll on the supply spindle
3. Thread ribbon path: Pull ribbon under the Druk head
4. Installeer take-up core: Attach empty core to take-up spindle
5. Secure ribbon: Tape ribbon end to the take-up core
6. laad Labels: Place label roll and thread through Gidss
7. Close components: Lower Druk head, then close front cover
8. Calibrate: Perform media calibration as described above

Stap 5: Media Calibration

Proper calibration ensures accurate label detection and positioning:

Automatic Calibration

1. Load your Labels as described above
2. Press and hold PAUSE + FEED buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds
3. Druker will feed several Labels to learn the media type
4. Wait for calibration to Volledige (Druker returns to ready state)
5. Test by pressing FEED - should advance exactly one label

Manual Calibration (if needed)

1. Access Druker menu by pressing PAUSE button briefly
2. Navigate to MEDIA MENU using FEED button
3. Select CALIBRATE and press PAUSE to confirm
4. Choose MEDIA TYPE (Gap/Notch, Continuous, Mark)
5. Follow on-screen prompts to Volledige calibration

Stap 6: First Druk with OpenLabelMaker

Now let's Maak and Druk your first Professioneel label:

1. Access OpenLabelMaker: Open the Gratis web-based editor
2. Select Druker: Choose "Zebra ZD420" or "Zebra ZD421" from the Druker list
3. Choose label size: Select dimensions matching your loaded media
4. Ontwerp your label: Add text, barcodes, graphics, or logos
5. Set Druk parameters: Choose direct thermal or thermal transfer mode
6. Preview Ontwerp: Check layout, alignment, and spacing
7. Druk: Send to Druker and watch your Professioneel label Druk

Network Configuration
