Design Tips

Always list allergens — bold or highlight the 14 major allergens (milk, eggs, nuts, gluten, etc.). Required by law in EU/UK and FDA guidelines in the US.
Include a best-before or use-by date — use a date field on your label that you fill in per batch.
Add weight / net contents — required for pre-packaged food. Show grams/kg and optionally ounces/pounds.
List ingredients in descending order — by weight, as required by food labelling regulations worldwide.
Use food-safe label stock — for labels that directly contact food, use FDA-approved or food-grade label paper.

Frequently Asked Questions

What must a food label include?

At minimum: product name, ingredient list (descending by weight), allergen declarations, net weight, best-before/use-by date, business name and address. Requirements vary by country — check your local food standards agency.

Can I add barcodes for retail?

Yes. OpenLabelMaker supports EAN-13 (EU/international retail), UPC-A (US retail), Code 128 (internal), and QR codes. Use batch mode to print unique barcodes per product.

Is this suitable for commercial food products?

OpenLabelMaker helps you design and print food labels. For commercial compliance, ensure your content meets local regulations (FDA 21 CFR 101 in US, EU 1169/2011 in Europe, UK Food Information Regulations 2014).
