How to Use a DYMO LabelWriter on Chromebook
DYMO Connect doesn't run on ChromeOS. But you can still design and print DYMO labels on your Chromebook — using a free browser-based label editor and PDF printing.
This guide covers printer setup, label design, and print settings for getting the best results on ChromeOS.
The Problem
DYMO Connect is not available for ChromeOS. It only runs on Windows and macOS. DYMO has no official Chromebook solution.
This leaves millions of Chromebook users with a DYMO LabelWriter they can't use — unless they find a workaround.

Step-by-Step Setup
Connect Your DYMO LabelWriter via USB
Plug the USB cable from your DYMO LabelWriter into your Chromebook. ChromeOS should detect the printer automatically.
Compatible models:
LabelWriter 450, 450 Turbo, 450 Twin Turbo, 550, 550 Turbo, 5XL, 4XL, and most other USB-connected LabelWriter models.
Verify Printer in ChromeOS Settings
Go to Settings → Advanced → Printing → Printers. Your DYMO should appear in the list. If it doesn't show up:
- • Click "Add Printer" and look for the DYMO in the list
- • Try unplugging and re-plugging the USB cable
- • Restart the Chromebook with the printer connected
- • Not all DYMO models are supported by ChromeOS — the LabelWriter 450 series and 550 series have the best compatibility
Open OpenLabelMaker
Go to openlabelmaker.com/editor in Chrome. Click the label size button and select your DYMO label.
Design Your Label
Add text, barcodes, QR codes, images, and shapes. The editor shows your label at its exact physical dimensions. What you see is what prints.
Export as PDF and Print
Click Export → PDF. The PDF page size matches your label exactly. Open the PDF and print (Ctrl+P).

Troubleshooting
ChromeOS doesn't detect my DYMO LabelWriter
Try these steps: (1) Unplug and replug the USB cable. (2) Restart your Chromebook. (3) Check Settings → Printing → Printers and click "Add Printer". (4) If your model is older (e.g. LabelWriter 400), ChromeOS may not have a driver. The 450 and 550 series have the best ChromeOS support.
The label prints too small or off-centre
Check your print settings: (1) Make sure "Scale" is set to 100%, NOT "Fit to page". (2) Set margins to "None". (3) Verify the paper size matches your label. If the DYMO paper sizes don't appear, try selecting "Custom" and entering the exact mm dimensions.
The label prints blank
DYMO LabelWriter is a thermal printer — it prints by heating the label, not with ink. Make sure you've loaded labels with the printable side facing up (the shiny side should face down). Also verify the roll is the correct size for your printer model.
Can I use a DYMO LabelWriter wirelessly on Chromebook?
Most DYMO LabelWriter models are USB-only. The LabelWriter Wireless (model 2002150) supports WiFi — if your Chromebook and printer are on the same network, it should appear in Settings → Printers. For USB-only models, you need a direct cable connection.
Paper sizes don't show DYMO options in the print dialog
ChromeOS sometimes shows generic paper sizes instead of DYMO-specific ones. If you don't see label-specific sizes: (1) Select the closest custom size. (2) Enter the exact mm dimensions from OpenLabelMaker (shown in the label size selector). (3) The PDF is already sized correctly, so matching the custom size ensures proper alignment.
